police oral board - 3 tips to success

Interview Tips For Police Officer Candidates

The Police oral board interview is the key to getting hired. As someone who has been a police officer for several years, I can tell you that I've seen many recruits flunk the interview when they were otherwise great applicants. The failure rate of so many candidates are a direct result of a lack of preparation. Plain and simple many prospects just don't realize the importance of the interview and as a result, they score poorly on the interview.

Below is three important things to never forget if you want to impress the panel

1. Do some research

Study the department that you're interested in. In this age of the Internet, there is no excuse for walking into a police department without prior knowledge of its stats and key personnel.

2. Check your appearance before leaving for the interview

Be careful that you don't send off a message of someone who can't be taken seriously by the way you're dressed. It should go without saying that heavy jewelry, and excessive makeup is a no,no. A dark suit with a solid color tie and shirt is appropriate for men as for women a suitable business attire is good. Clothing should be clean and pressed.

3. Don't forget to use titles when answering a question

Make certain if you know the rank of a particular board member to use it when responding to a direct question from that particular interviewer. For instance, if Sergeant Wright ask you a question, respond with his rank first (Sergeant) and then his last name (Wright). If you don't know the title or rank of the interviewers, you can call human resource in advance to find out.
